How to Lose Weight the Easy Way

Losing weight the easy way is what everyone is looking for, right?

I'm sure you've seen this meme: Everyone thinks that a girl's dream is to find the perfect guy. Pfft please, every girl's dream is to get thin by eating cupcakes.

Losing weight in a way that was super fast was always my goal. And I was sure that if someone could tell me the one right way I'd be set for life.

It never worked.

Sometimes I did lose weight fast but it ALWAYS came back.

This blog post IS how to lose weight the easy way. What I mean by that is: how to lose weight the way that works, the way that's permanent and doesn't feel like we're punishing ourselves. It's the way the keeps feeling better and better instead of being an up and down rollercoaster.

The "easy" long-lasting way involves:

  • feeling our feelings
  • noticing when we eat our feelings instead of feeling our feelings
  • noticing the triggers that make us reach for food
  • finding new rewards when we need comfort and nurturance
  • learning how to talk to ourselves in a kind way
  • picking new, challenging life things so that we jump out of bed and feel excited to tackle the day
  • learning to communicate our feelings, set boundaries, and ask for what we need
  • practicing daily gratitude for the body that helps us live our life
  • looking at internalized body shame and having the courage to heal old wounds

Okay so some of these don't sound so easy. What's great about this strategy is that once you start working on one of the items, the others come easily. Learning new, healthy habits feels good. When we feel good it gives us momentum to make changes so that we keep feeling even better.

That's what I found when I quit sugar on January 1, 2016. I felt so good--so much better than ever before--that I felt motivated to keep feeling even better!

The "easy" (long-lasting) way maybe seems daunting. We have been programmed to equate easy with fast. "I just need to lose 30lbs this week by starving myself and drinking only juice and bone broth." What do you think will happen at the end of that month, hmm? That's right, back to the same habits, back to the same weight.

I started the Give Up Sugar For Good 8-week challenge to share the best tools and teachings with everyone so that we can lose weight and feel better in our bodies the easy way. The hard way is trying to do it on our own and proving how independent we are.

The easy way is knowing when to say, "I need help."

The easy way is easy when we do it within a community, we stop trying to be perfect, we get help from experts (me! I have lost 33lbs since quitting sugar Jan 1, 2016 and kept it off effortlessly).
